The glass ceiling was broken again when the Overall Prize at Fine Art @ Hale was warded to the piece of jewellery- A first for this long running event.
Felicity Peters was awarded the $2000 prize at the opening night of the exhibition on Friday night the 7th June. The winning pieces was a stunning pendant, part of new design from Felicity. The piece features cast silver passionfruit tendrils, gum nuts and seed pods. Enamel highlights some of the objects.

The pendant was part of a range of ten pieces that Felicity entered. All the pieces were judged for workmanship, design, wearability etc. The judges comments, as read by the headmaster on the night was.
The judges found it particularly difficult to choose one work this year for the overall award. The standard of work across so many types of media was very strong. In the end, they were drawn to a medium that usually gets overlooked for this award – jewellery.
This year’s award goes to Felicity Peters for her work “Flora Pendant”. The judges comments included: “there is a curiosity in her observations and sophistication in her work and in her handling of materials. The piece is distinctively Western Australian.”
They also commented during the judging that all her designs in the exhibition were beautiful and consistently well presented.

The annual Fine Art@Hale exhibition showcases the work of emerging and established Western Australian artists across the creative media of painting, sculpture, mixed media, glass, ceramics, textiles, photography and jewellery.
