One Store, Many Makers: Celebrating the Creative Heart of WA

There’s a special kind of magic that happens when you step inside The Artisan Store Fremantle. It’s the feeling of discovery — of colour, texture, form and story — all woven together by the hands of Western Australia’s most talented makers.

As we enter a new chapter for the store, we’re proud to spotlight the artists who shape our identity and inspire our community. With over 170 WA artisans represented, our shelves are more than displays; they’re living galleries of contemporary craft.

Our latest feature reel, One Store, Many Makers, introduces four of these incredible creatives. Each brings a unique perspective, a distinct style, and a deep commitment to their craft.

Demi McLeod — Visual Artist

Demi’s work is a vibrant tapestry of global influence. Having lived and travelled across Africa, the Middle East, Europe and beyond, she draws on cultural experiences and classical techniques to create contemporary pieces rich in colour and emotion.

Her art reflects a life of curiosity — a blend of tradition and modern expression shaped by years of study and a passion for craftsmanship. Whether adjusting a canvas or chatting with a customer, Demi’s warmth and creativity shine through every frame.

Laura Farnhill — Visual Artist & Muralist

Bold colour, fine detail and a deep love for Australia’s landscapes define Laura’s work. As a trained Art Therapist, she understands the healing power of creativity — a philosophy that flows through her paintings, murals and everyday art pieces.

Laura brings treasured scenes to life through large‑scale murals for homes and restaurants, while her prints, totes, aprons and tea towels make her art accessible to everyone. Her section of the store bursts with energy, reflecting her joyful approach to artmaking.

Deirdre Coppen — Contemporary Jeweller

Deirdre’s jewellery is sculptural, refined and intentional. Her pieces balance precision with texture, simplicity with elegance — wearable art designed to be both contemporary and timeless.

Watching Deirdre arrange her display is like watching a curator at work. Every piece has a place, every detail matters. Her jewellery invites you to look closer, to appreciate the craftsmanship in each curve, edge and finish.

Howard Bradfield — Ceramicist

With decades of experience as both an artist and educator, Howard brings depth and storytelling to his ceramic sculpture. His work explores form, design and colour through the human figure, drawing inspiration from artists like Gustav Klimt, Frida Kahlo and Marc Chagall.

Each piece is expressive and unmistakably his — a thoughtful response to the possibilities of clay, texture and colour. Howard’s display is a celebration of sculptural form, inviting viewers to pause and take in the details.
