Darning Mushroom with Groove by Paul Thompson.
This product is hand-turned in Perth, Western Australia, from recycled jarrah, Eucalyptus Marginata. This is the major timber in WA. Mature trees are dark red with pale sapwood.
Darning mushrooms help hold the shape of the item you’re mending and keep fabric taut, so you get a more natural-looking result.
2 sizes are available.
To repair socks, push the mushroom behind the hole to slightly tension the fabric, then sew threads across the hole parallel to each other piercing the fabric each side of the hole. Come back along sewing at right-angles to the first threads and weaving over-under to fill in the hole. Tensioning the fabric stops the darning from pulling the fabric together.
