I live in the Toodyay region, and my main interest is jewellery making using fallen pieces of local bush timbers.
Local folk contact me when limbs fall, these have included pieces from 100 year plus old Olive Trees, and the famous Western Australian Christmas tree, which a friend found was interfering with her rainwater tank.
The variation in the odour of the wood, e.g. from the sweet scent of the Raspberry Jam Tree, to the delicate fragrance of Sandalwood, is a pleasant bonus.
The grain of the local wood has huge variation in colour, shape and texture, and is a constant joy, often with unexpected results when the lathe is switched off, and the new creation is polished to display its true colours.
