Kinneret Magid moved from the East Coast of the USA to the wild West Coast of Australia at 19 years old to follow her heart. Her work reflects the shift in identity that she is currently still going through surrounding “home”. The home in which she grew up was filled with stories, myths, and exciting imaginary worlds that were created through the power of children’s literature. She works to create a world like that for adults, or anyone who wants to listen, breathe, and understand the nostalgic pull for a world created within the mind. Kinneret’s collection of acrylic and watercolour paintings was created as an activity to get comfortable using colour and lighting techniques. She has spent a lot of time re-reading classic children’s books from her youth and taking inspiration from the beautiful classical illustration styles of Edward Gorey and Maira Kalman.
