Mirror Mirror Original Painting by Lynne Mettam.
Collage/mixed media on canvas
30.5 x 22.5 x 4.0 cm
Picasso (inspired/modified) sketch – figurative expressionism – a woman sits at her mirror contemplating her features and dress. The pose is simple and charming and has a calming effect on the viewer. This piece is experimental in that I am using mixed media to experiment with sketches both my own and from the masters, and each piece is a one off, finished with cold wax to preserve the work.
(A note on mixed medium – a term which is used as reference to design and visual art where more than one medium is used in the creation of an artwork.
In 1912 Picasso and his friend Braque experimented with what they called Cubism, using each other’s work to make art and started a new movement of collage using mixed media and embellishments of paper and found objects. Picasso used house paint for most of his art and also brown paper and wallpaper cast offs which he peeled from walls of his various studios and rooms.)
