“Alexa” original painting by Lynne Mettam.
Oil, Mixed media on Canvas,
30.5 x 23 x 2 cm
Having painted the years away in oil I now find myself enjoying mixed media more than ever, using both oil and acrylic as I go. Alexa’s portrait was taken from a Vintage photograph of a Russian Aristocrat. Her face was quite lovely but rather sad and wistful so as I worked the piece I decided to give her some flowers and lace for her hair. Sometimes with my portraits, especially the vintage photographs, I find myself imagining her life and how she would find the world now. I daresay she would be quite amazed at it all!
My oil, acrylics and mixed media art and paintings are a reflection of how I see the world and also is a great way for me to relax! I love colour and use it to as much advantage in my artwork as I can. Because I study creativity on all levels I have taken much inspiration from many other sources and have added this to my artwork/collages over the thirty five years of my art making. My artworks have been sold to buyers in Baltimore USA, New Guinea, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast and Perth in Australia and also to Christchurch in New Zealand to name a few cities, and in the interim over many exhibitions from Cairns in Queensland to Portsea in Victoria.
As another string to my creative bow I have also written and illustrated (in watercolour) two children’s books “The Bend in the River,” in 1986 for Greenhouse Publications and “Mischief at Muddy Bend” in 1989 for Penguin Books. Both books were taken up by Ashton’s Scholastics at the time of their publication, and so were included in all Primary School libraries in Australia and in our National Libraries. I am now working on a sequel to these two books with illustrations in mixed media and acrylics.
