This ring is a celebration of Perth’s Cottesloe Beach. Inspired by the centuries old enamelling technique of basse taille, I have taken textures from nature- in this case, a branch from a Cottesloe Beach Norfolk pine tree- and sand cast it in pure silver. Over this, I have fused a deep ocean blue vitreous enamel. I’ve then treated this piece like a precious stone, setting it in a sterling silver ring. This ring combines traditional stone-setting techniques, enamelling and sand casting and is a one-of-a-kind piece in which light plays on the textured silver surface, reflecting back several shades of blue.
Colour is applied by fusing enamel (coloured glass) powder to the metal at high temperatures.
