- 2 off 15mm x 8mm oval beads made with amber chips set in an epoxy matrix
- 3 off 25mm x 15mm oval beads made with amber chips set in an epoxy matrix
The combination of colours and matrix-set chips make a particularly pleasing contrast. It is designed to accompany a light-coloured outfit.
The necklace is approx. 450 mm long and cannot be adjusted. It weighs 85 g and has no clasp.
It was made by local Perth artist, Galina Rozanova using amber sourced from the Baltic States. Galina has been making beaded jewellery for 25 years and has won many prestigious awards
Amber is the fossilised remnant of sap from ancient pine trees and exhibits warm golden coloured highlights in natural light. It hardens with age after burial. The Vikings believed that it was formed from the tears of the goddess Freya. Opaque pieces are older and hence more valuable, but there is also a premium paid for pieces containing fossilised insects. Amber is said to have healing properties against ailments such as asthma, catarrh, chest pains coughs and earache. It is also said to mitigate depression
