Amber is the fossilised remnant of sap from ancient pine trees and exhibits warm golden coloured highlights in natural light. It hardens with age after burial. The Vikings believed that it was formed from the tears of the goddess Freya. Opaque pieces are older and hence more valuable, but there is also a premium paid for pieces containing fossilised insects. Amber is said to have healing properties against ailments such as asthma, catarrh, chest pains coughs and earache. It is also said to mitigate depression
