Timber: Olive, Olea Europacea. Despite their European origin, Olive Trees of 100 years plus exists in Western Australia. A fallen Olive branch from a friends Olive tree alerted me to it’s magnificent grain.
Timber: Huon Pine, Lagrostrobus Franklinii. This iconic plant is the second slowest grower on earth. It is a fragrant soft wood with high oil content and lives for 25000 years only in the wet rain forests of South West Tasmania , Australia. It is a completely protected but was used in boatbuilding , furniture and turnery.
Timber: Strawberry Jam, Acacia Acuminata. Generally a small tree common throughout the Wheatbelt of WA. It is an ideal host for Sandalwood. Heartwood is a dark reddish brown with pale sapwood.
Timber: Almond, Prunus Amygdalus. It is native to Iran but widely grown elsewhere. These studs were made from a tree from a friends place that was damaged in a storm, which made it available to turn into new objects to treasure.
Timber: Sheoak, Allocasuarina Fraseriana. This tree is widespread in South west Western Australia. The heartwood is red to brown and the sapwood is pale yellow. Medullary rays are prominent.
Timber: Sandalwood. Sandalwood refers to a group of aromatic woods and the trees that produce them, primarily from the genus Santalum. There are three notable types: Hawaiian sandalwood, Indian sandalwood, and Australian sandalwood which is native to Western Australia. Australian sandalwood is used for its oil and timber, though its scent is considered less intense than that of Indian sandalwood.
Timber: Beef Wood. This tree is Native to Australia and you can find this tree in every state. It is also found in the Pacific Islands and Southeast Asia.
