Black swans are important Western Australian culture, so much so that they are on the state flag.
In the 18th and 19th century Britain tried to introduce black swans to select parts of the country as an ornamental bird, but after a while they began to revolt, some black swans escaped and others were deliberately released and despite efforts to get them back this led to a feral population of swans becoming established in Britain.
