A few words From Ted Ellyard
I took up metal craft and jewellery making about 10 years ago after retiring as a full time geologist and company manager. I have a set up a small workshop at home and enjoy making jewellery as a way to relax from the pressures of global market downturns and working in the resources industry.
Most of my metal craft techniques were learnt from weekend courses at TAFE. My wife Leng, who studied fashion design in Perth, provides much inspiration and advice in the jewellery design stage.
Rings are my favourite jewellery item to make. “It all starts with the ring.” I also enjoy working with contrasting metals, using silver and 18 ct gold and even rusty Iron. And as a geologist, I enjoy using all types of precious gemstones.
