Karla Freitag

Karla Freitag is a Tasmanian-born, Perth-based artist whose work is inspired by nature, animals, and her deep love for music — particularly the classical repertoire. Her art reflects these passions through intricate detail, fluid movement, and a distinctive, free-flowing style that blends technical skill with creative spontaneity.

Karla’s diverse body of work includes semi-abstract paintings, whimsical bird portraits, and finely crafted illustrations. Her Schminckey series, created on premium artist paper, showcases her playful imagination and keen observational eye.

Formally trained in fine art, sculpture, and photography, Karla studied at the Launceston School of Art and Claremont School of Art, among others. Her creative journey also includes mural commissions for schools, book illustrations for Queensland author Helen Ryan, and many private commissions.

Karla has exhibited widely, with shows at the Queen Victoria Museum (Launceston), Nexus Group (Fremantle), Swan View Art Awards (winner, 2014), and the Wanneroo Cultural Centre. She continues to support the Mount Lawley Senior High School’s Lawley Arts Auction — with every donated work sold since 2014.

Her work is held in private and public collections across Australia and is available for purchase in galleries and online.
