Jane Pyper

I love colour, texture, and slouchy, flattering knitwear. I ponder anyone who says, “I don’t wear beanies, they don’t suit me,” has probably never got down and snuggly in a soft, slouchy hat.

Using Australian grown and spun yarns, I knit in the round, which results in no seams in the hat.

My other main love is repurposing and recycling fabrics into colourful and distinctive designs, which are eye-catching, practical and fun. Working with what I find, my pieces are one-of-a-kind and bring a new lease-of-life to forgotten fabrics. I draw inspiration from the waking play, desires and demands of my 2- and 4-year-old daughters (and manage some time to work when they are asleep).

Having experienced the frustration many shoppers feel at being shoe-boxed by what some might call ‘gender-specific clothing’ (particularly for children), Jane’s beanies and garments are intentionally fun and, as one might say in Spanish, designed to be worn just as they are – así – by whomever wishes to put them on.
