Donna Cozens
Donna cozens is a self-taught artist living in Perth, Western Australia. Although she has no formal training, this didn’t stop her from picking up a brush to reconnect with her love of art and colour, driven by a deep love of Birds and Native flowers, she’s drawn to their character, movement, and quiet presence in the landscape,
Donna’s work celebrates these subjects through bold, expressive colour and a strong sense of life and energy.
Her love of art started as a young child; she loved to sit and watch her surroundings and just draw for hours.
Donna draws inspiration from the natural beauty around her, particularly native birdlife and flora, she aims to capture not just how these subjects look, but the feeling they bring. There’s a sense of joy, movement and connection that Donna tries to bring to every piece.
Through bold, brush strokes and layering of colour and texture, Donna aims to create paintings that evoke feelings of joy, emotion and connection with each painting. her style varies between neat with attention to detail to rough with a touch of messy abstract.
Donna is drawn to how colour has the power to influence one’s moods and how it can impact the décor in a room, it has healing powers whilst evoking emotional responses.
What began as a personal outlet quickly became an important part of her life. painting gives her space to slow down, unwind and express what words often can’t.
Donna works mainly in acrylic, enjoying its flexibility and the way it allows her to build strong, vibrant layers.
She also explores oils and pastels, using each medium to capture different textures and moods.
Donna hopes that her work invites others to pause, connect, and find a sense of calm and joy in the everyday beauty of nature.
