I have always enjoyed making art – particularly drawing – so when I discovered pyrography about eighteen years ago I knew I had found a creative form that suited me. Pyrography literally means “writing with fire”. My work involves linework, shading and textures hand drawn with a woodburning pen and sometimes colour is added for effect. I am inspired by nature – our beautiful Australian birds, animals and plants. Pyrography has given me a great respect for the organic beauty of wood and stirs all the senses – the feel, texture, smell and character of wood. Being such an organic art form, it is a perfect medium for creatively capturing our natural environment.
