I am a local artist, living and working in South Fremantle. My current series of metal artworks follows previous, more structured, art courses undertaken in abstract painting. A desire to get more experimental with a new medium and a chance find of some very aged tin sheeting from a friend’s farm lead to an obsession with sourcing interesting and unusual rustic objects to get creative with.
The materials themselves; tin, wire, chain, keys, tools and other rusty treasures, provide great inspiration for designing and creating the modern art pieces that evolve. At times a single piece of metal will spark an idea for an artwork and other times, the design is formulated first. Whichever way, I adore being able to re-purpose old treasures, destined for landfill, into a new and interesting art forms.
