Searching for a platform for my jewellery
The journey began in 2014
I went in search of a suitable market place to sell my jewellery. I researched and tried many online platforms, local galleries and retail businesses but couldn’t find the right fit for me. I wanted the person selling my work to care about my work and the customer purchasing it as much as I did.
A perfect fit for me
The gallery emerged
The Artisan Store Fremantle emerged from that search. If I couldn’t find a suitable platform to sell my work, then I would create and build that platform. I considered lots of different models for the business but in the end the rent-a-shelf won thru, this seemed like the fairest system for all. It created an opening for all local artists to sell their work and receive in return a 100% of their sales, no matter how individually skilled they were at promoting themselves. What emerged was a wonderful unique and diverse collection of WA talent in one space

Rowena Mitchell
the founder and the owner of The Artisan Store Fremantle
Rowena is the owner and guiding force behind The Artisan Store Fremantle, a vibrant gallery dedicated to showcasing Western Australian makers. Her curatorial approach is shaped by a rich creative background that began with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture in 1987, followed by many years working at an executive level within Perth’s architectural industry. Her career spanned design, technical drawing, project management, interior design, and architectural consulting—fields that deepened her appreciation for form, structure, and the dialogue between art and space.
Art, culture, and design have been constant influences throughout her life, informing both her architectural work and her later evolution as a silversmith, jewellery artist, and Gemmologist. A lifelong collector of jewellery—sparked by a silver charm bracelet gifted by her grandmother—Rowena has spent more than 30 years immersed in the world of handcrafted objects.
In 2008 she began formal jewellery training at Challenger TAFE, later completing a Diploma in Gemmology in 2014 and establishing her own studio practice, REM Jewellery. She continues to refine her technical skills while nurturing the creative community at The Artisan Store.
Today, Rowena divides her time between the jewellery bench and curating the gallery. Her warmth, attention to detail, and deep respect for local makers have shaped The Artisan Store into a welcoming hub where creativity, craftsmanship, and connection thrive.
Natali Bozhanova
Natali is our social media maker and photographer.
Natali is a textile artist of Crochettiky. She is an amigurumi fairy and can create almost everything using yarn and hook.
Natali is a big lover of the ocean, sea creatures and underwater photography
Levi Halpern
Levi, the 24 year old Artist from Perth, WA.
In their short life, Levi has spent much of their time traveling the world with their family. Through these many endeavours, Levi was exposed to all sorts of artists and art styles that have inspired them and shaped their own art. Out of these styles, traditional Māori art stuck with him, especially with it being part of his own inherited culture.
Levi creates with nature as a focus, often adding a magical element. Levi lives in East Fremantle with his Boston Terrier, Koda Taueki.

Volunteer at the Artisan Store Fremantle
We are seeking volunteers over Spring and Summer to help us out over our busy period of time. We are all about supporting and looking after our artists and providing an amazing local art experience for our customers. Our artists are always running out of time to do the little things. We need a little bit of help keeping our artists shelf displays looking fabulous and chatting to our customers about all the wonderful makers we represent.
